I know it was late when I called but, a guilty man don’t use another girl’s phone, and
I thought you would see things… that way.
I didn’t know you were closing the bar and that, embarrassed you sat waiting on me, and then
That cold, cold walk home… alone.

CHORUS #1
Ring, ring, I’m callin’ now & can’t you hear me reachin’ out?
But nothing got in the way
She means nothin’ to me, my guilty mind reached out to her
But nothing happened that way

And now doors are locked and lights out, so I, I rush to your house to ring the bell, but
There’s not an answer, at your door.
So now I think your out messin’ round, and I, run down to the liquor store to use the phone, but when
You answer, you send me away.

CHORUS #1

I was at the show, thought that I was mending fences. You thought I was in, digging trenches.
She got in my car, we were going to meet the Lurkers! They didn’t show, bad decision.

CHORUS #2
Ring, ring, you can’t condone, I had to use the fuckin’ phone
But nothing happened that way
You mean the world to me, my guilt’s only for bein late
But nothing got in the way

So I drove her back. Her car’s at Joe’s and I was hasty, I didn’t see the new car purchase.
Then I didn’t think, I lied and said I wasn’t drinking.
And once you lie, no one listens.

CHORUS #2

Now I’m sittin’ home and it’s the next day, and I
Forgot the noon meal and my pride was hurt so when
The phone rings I just turns… away…
Now there’s things going on I don’t know about.
And I'm making a damn fool of myself, the way I'm crying and everything
But I just want you to know while you were at the window, you was KILLIN’ me!

CHORUS #3
Ring, ring, you’re callin’ now, and I can’t hear you reachin’ out.
Nothin’ gets in the way
I mean nothin’ to you, I’m guilty though I did not wrong.
Nothin’ got in the way

Now I sit at home. All alone, I am without you. I know I lied, and feigned feelings…
Baby’s love is gone. I can’t believe nothing’s the reason!
My guilty mind, my destruction…
